The theme of our Literacy Week this year is “Festivals and Celebrations Around the World.”
In preparation for our Poetry Café held on Friday, May 4, we are asking each family to complete an activity to illustrate a particular celebration that that you partake in. Please decorate the attached sheet with symbols and pictures illustrating a festival or celebration your family has chosen. For example, if your family celebrates Chinese New Year, you may choose to include a drawing of a dragon dance, firecrackers, zodiac animals, and/or Chinese symbols. Likewise, you may choose celebrations like Canada Day, Christmas, Cherry Blossom Festival or Carnaval as some suggestions.
Please ensure the layout of the paper is landscape (horizontal) as it will be turned into a paper lantern upon return to the classroom teacher. As well, ensure that the entire sheet of paper is coloured and that nothing is glued on the paper since we will need to cut lines to turn them into lanterns. These lanterns will be displayed at our Poetry Café.
We ask that these sheets be returned to the classroom teacher no later than Friday, April 27.
Thank you for your cooperation!
