PRESENTATION ON SOCIAL MEDIA – TUESDAY, MAY 21ST - 7:00 – 8:30 PM
We will be hosting a presentation on Social Media for all parents of children in grades Kindergarten to Grade 7. “How Technology and Media Impact Our Lives” – A one year-old recently starved to death while his parents played video games in the next room. Young girls are committing suicide after strangers on-line call them ugly. At the same time, there are children founding charities and helping people in need all over the world. Social media, gaming, porn and texting are examples of innovations adding to the already powerful influence of media on our lives and research suggests that more pressure could be coming. Marketers are finding new ways to target the identity, sexuality and sense of self-worth of young people. This presentation will explore how and why marketing strategies have shifted and what we can do to protect and prepare our children to be happy, healthy and impactful in the world.” Speaker James Borkowski spent 20 years in product development and marketing working with major corporations around the world. After seeing first-hand the impact marketers have on our lives, James now applies his knowledge and experience to helping young people (and their parents and teachers) understand how precious life is. As Executive Director of Signal Hill, James works to develop culture shifting media and mind altering educational programs.

TRACK AND FIELD UPDATE
There are only a few weeks left before the C.I.S.V.A. track meet and it is important for all athletes who will be competing at the meet to attend every practice. Relay teams must be able to practice together. Thursday, May 16th is the final day for Track and Field for the Grade 1 & 2 athletes. We thank the Grade 1s & 2s for their commitment and participation in this year’s track program. The final practice for students who are not competing in an event at the C.I.S.V.A. track meet is May 23rd. Only those athletes who will be competing at the C.I.S.V.A. track meet are to attend practices after May 23rd. Students will be informed if they will be competing in the C.I.S.V.A. track meet and if they are required to attend future practices. All athletes, whether they are competing or not, are invited to attend the FIRST day of the track meet on Wednesday, May 29th. A consent form with further information will be sent home shortly. Thank you for your continued support of the St. Michael’s Track and Field program. The C.I.S.V.A. meet will be held on Wednesday, May 29th and Wednesday, June 5th.
